Stuart Smith & Rebecca Murray
We have been cooking around the world, from Europe, London, SE Asia, Australia & the Pacific for a very long time (few decades!)

After two years in the Pacific Islands spearheading the “think global, act local” movement training hotel chefs in utilising local produce and kitchen staff in the re-invention of traditional dishes, we washed up on the Coromandel to help out in the kitchen at Smitty’s, a family business in Whitianga.

After 5 years working around town, we decided to commit to the area and started a catering business, which quickly grew into Blue Ginger in Blacksmith Lane.

We identified a need in town for fresh South East Asian flavours in a relaxed setting.

Our love is hospitality, training the next generation of locals & serving up delicious, healthy food that nourishes the soul. We hope you enjoy our efforts!

Peace, love & mungbeans!

Supporting Local Creators
Supporting local people and local creators is a philosophy we strongly believe in.
At Blue Ginger we stock a range of local produce, as well as local art from our friends and whanau.

-
Fresh Coromandel Oysters
We serve fresh oysters from our friends at the Coromandel Oyster Company. Situated on the south side of the Coromandel township, freshly harvested oysters are delivered over the hill, to our doorstep and straight on to your plate.
-
Coffee Lala
The coffee we serve in our restaurant is none other than Coffee Lala, based right here in the Coromandel. Established in 2002 by Nedilka Radojkovich & Mark Tugendhaft, Coffee Lala has won 18 awards in the New Zealand Coffee Festival and Competitions. Their 100% Arabica beans are sourced from the world's best plantations and roasted with utmost care to produce truly beautiful coffee.
-
Forage + Bloom Teas
We serve Forage + Bloom Herbal Teas, created by Naturopath, Herbalist, and our friend Hannah McMenamin. Hannah uses high quality organic herbs which are sourced both locally and globally. Hand blended in small batches, Forage + Bloom organic herbal teas are designed to taste good, work in with your lifestyle, and make you feel amazing!
-
Zeta's Dragon Table
Hand painted by Rebecca's mum Rozetta, our dragon table is the hottest seat in the house. Chinese Dragons are a symbol of power, strength, and good luck for people who are worthy of it - in contrast to the evil, dangerous, fire-breathing dragons of most Western stories.
-
Hana Coleman Portraits
Hana Coleman is a 15 year old Kuaotunu local. We first spotted her Pacifica portrait on her Instagram account and were instantly in awe. We purchased both her Pacifica and Asian inspired portraits which are now at home in our restaurant, and are looking forward to having more of her work on display.
Other creators we have featured in the past include: -
Atawhai Charteris Framed Prints
-
Chris Chateris Works
-
Zoe Cutfield Paintings
