Let's talk about our new Special Dish, Chairman Mao's Twice-Cooked Pork Cheeks

A new dish has hit the woks at Blue Ginger - and it's the perfect warm dish as we head into Autumn.

Our Twice-Cooked Pork Cheeks are our take on Chairman Mao's favourite dish, Red Braised Pork.

Mao Zedong, commonly known as Chairman Mao, was a Chinese communist revolutionary, poet, political theorist and founding father of the People's Republic of China, which he ruled as the Chairman of the Communist Party of China from its establishment in 1949 until his death in 1976.

Red-braised pork is a Hunanese dish that is inseparably associated with the memory of Chairman Mao; many Chinese restaurants call it “The Mao Family’s red-braised pork”.

The people of Mao Zedong’s home village of Shaoshan actually recommend the dish as a “health food”. “Men eat it to build their brains and ladies to make themselves more beautiful.”

Our take on the dish will me make you feel warm and fuzzy on the inside, and definitely enhance your brains and beauty!

The pork cheeks are served in a beautifully sticky sauce which sings with star anise and cinnamon, while Szechuan Pepper dances and tingles on your tongue ✨A side of Stu's classic kimchi adds a kick of freshness and chilli to the dish, and you can soak up all of the sauce and goodness with a bowl of warm jasmine rice.

Come on in and give it a go - for $16 you definitely won't regret it! 🔥
